Top 10 Summer Cycling Essentials
You guys, IT'S THE FIRST WEEK OF SUMMER! Are you as excited as we are?! Sunshine, long days, beach and/or lake side BBQ's, all the frozen treats you can eat... Not to mention adventures, on and off the bike!
To help you gear up for your summer riding excursions, we complied a list of our summer time cycling essentials...
Cute colour, cute print, breathable and lightweight. What more can you ask for in a pair of summer gloves?
These bibshorts are a brand new addition to Velocio’s lineup for Summer 2018. They’re perfect for long, hot days on the bike, and are so lightweight that they even eliminated the need for their Fly zipper. Velocio are our go-to bibs for any time of the year!
A vest or gilet is probably one of the most versatile pieces in any cycling wardrobe. You’ll find one stuffed in our jersey pockets at the very first sight of clouds.
It sounds counter-intuitive, right? Adding an extra layer under your jersey in the sweltering heat of summer? A quality base layer will actually moderate your temperature and wick moisture away from the body. Plus, you’ll look cool in all those post-ride-completely-cooked-unzipped-jersey shots.
Longer sleeves for UV protection and a super flattering chevron design down the front make this jersey one of our favourites. No jersey fits quite like the ES does and it also comes in Celeste for the ladies out there who don’t love pink as much as we do!
Mismatched and bright - the way all socks should be!
MFF came out with this amazing collection last Summer that defies the idea that Summer = bare arms and burned arms. These sleeves are UPF 50, light enough to wear on warm days, and eliminate those tan lines we’re oh-so-proud of.
I’m of the mindset that when it comes to cycling-specific sunglasses, the bigger, the better. Even when they could resemble an aero-helmet shield.
We’ve got to remember to reward our bodies with the gift that is hydration. The Matcha flavour from Skratch has an “earthy” taste that isn’t too sweet like some other options. Throw some extras in your saddle bag for emergencies. (This goes for gels, too!)
10. Summer adventures!
Adventures are essential to our summer curriculum. Jump on a ferry, or put your bike in your car, and find yourself riding in places you wouldn’t get to when the weather isn’t in our favour. There is nothing quite as satisfying as ending a long, hot day on the bike at a brewery, cidery or vineyard that you pedalled your way to with nothing but your legs and determination.
Of course, don't forget the sunscreen! We didn't add a particular brand, but if you have a go-to brand, we would love to get your recommendations...
